Hidden WW2 tunnels under Merseyside are opening for terrifying ghost hunts

One of Merseyside’s spookiest locations is opening up for ghost hunts this year.

Those who are brave enough will be able to wander around the hidden World War II tunnels, 30ft below ground, that are frozen in time.

The eerie, abandoned underground can be found beneath the old Palace and Floral Pavilion, in New Brighton, in the tunnels that were once used as a bar locally known as  ‘The Creep Inn’.

The haunted tunnels, which are understood to date back more than 200 years, were used during World War Two as air raid shelters and a secret weapons factory.

Between 1939 and 1945, it is thought that more than 200 women would work around the clock, on machines, making bullets and shells for the war effort.

The tunnels are said to have been used by smugglers who were infamous on the stretch of the River Mersey.

Renowned ghost hunting events company Haunted Happenings is hosting an overnight hunt in the Merseyside bunker.

The event includes vigils and seances for small groups, experiments including glass divination, table tipping and ouija boards, and use of ghost hunting equipment such as EMF Meters and K2 Meters.

Refreshments and light snacks will also be included.

The event is not suitable for those with mobility issues, or those who scare easily.
