Hidden smoke grenade found during woodland search

A smoke grenade was found by police during an open land search in Knowsley.

Earlier today ( Monday) Merseyside Police revealed they found the device during a search of land off Knowsley Lane, near a local wood.

The force released a photograph of the smoke grenade, which has now been removed from the scene.

The force posted a comment on social media which read: "Officers from Knowsley Community Policing Team conducted an open land search near to Knowsley Lane, Knowsley.

"A thorough search was completed & officers located a used smoke grenade which has been taken away for safety. Thanks to everyone who stopped and spoke to us."
