'Hidden' Korean takeaway restaurant serving 'the best food ever'

A "hidden gem" restaurant and takeaway has been getting rave reviews from people living in and around Southport.

Korean Kitchen opened in July 2020, shortly after the country was plunged into lockdown for the first time.

Ran by husband and wife Lyn Monks and Taeyeop Kim, Korean Kitchen offers traditional Korean food including tempura, kimchi and Korean-style fried chicken, Dakk Galbi and Korean BBQ beef.

It's the only place offering Korean food in the area.

Lyn told the ECHO : "Taeyeop is Korean so it was a no brainer, really. We opened during lockdown so most people know us as a takeaway but we are a restaurant too.

"There was a slow start and then it's just blown up, the feedback from people has been amazing. We're busy all the time."

Taeyeop moved to the town around five years ago after meeting Lyn, who is originally from Southport.

Tucked away on Sandon Road in Hillside, flanked by a coffee shop and a barbers, you'd be forgiven for walking past the small, unassuming restaurant without noticing it.

There is room for 12 people to dine inside, with some outdoor seating too.

Everything is prepared from fresh, unprocessed ingredients - and if you fancy a Korean dish that isn't on the menu, you can call and ask the chef to prepare it.

Boasting an impressive 5.79 of 6 stars on Just Eat, Korean Kitchen has dozens of rave reviews.

One diner wrote: "Amazing food every time."

Another said: "I would have Korean kitchen every day if I could. It’s simply the best food ever."

A third said: "Absolutely delicious - the perfect choice for a night in, and one of the few places to absolutely nail a chicken katsu."

Popular items on the menu include the "Home Alone" bowl, chicken katsu, and Yangnyeom chicken.
