Hidden gem Edinburgh pub wins two top awards in prestigious national beer guide

An Edinburgh brewery has been named Best Taproom in Scotland and has been named as one of the best pubs in Edinburgh by the UK’s prestigious Good Beer Guide.

“After winning Best Taproom in the Scottish Beer Awards earlier this month, we’re so happy to also have our Bellfield Taproom listed in the CAMRA Official Good Beer Guide as one of the best pubs in Edinburgh,” the pub wrote online.

The Bellfield Brewery in Abbeyhill makes “exceptional beers that everyone can enjoy.” All of Bellfield’s beers are certified gluten-free & registered by the Vegan Society.

On Wednesday, the brewery announced that it had been named as one of the best pubs in Edinburgh according to the 50th anniversary CAMRA Official Good Beer Guide.

CAMRA says it is the UK’s “best-selling guide to pubs, bars and clubs where you can enjoy a great pint of traditional British beer.”

The Bellfield team also took home the “Best Taproom of the Year” designation at the Scottish Beer Awards 2022.

“We set up Bellfield to make exceptional beers that everyone could enjoy drinking. We love good food, so we brew beers that complement it,” Bellfield’s website states.

“Our small team in Edinburgh is dedicated to the craft of brewing great tasting beers that everyone can enjoy. We’re independent, passionate, committed and proud of it.”

The idea for Bellfield Brewery began in Portobello, and it shares a name with a local Portobello street. The Brewery opened in 2015, and upgraded it’s brewhouse facilities in 2019.

The brewery was founded on making beer accessible for everyone, which is why all of its beers are vegan certified and gluten free.

“We will only ever produce gluten-free and vegan beers – it’s what we are all about. We aim to produce a wide range of beer styles to give all craft beer drinkers a choice.”

“In our opinion (shared by many of our customers) our beers stand up to any beer on the market; they've won awards in mainstream competitions.”

Bellfield offers a variety of beers from IPAs, Pilsner, Craft Lagers, Porters and other specialties.

“Our core range will eventually include a variety of styles from lagers and ales through to porters and stouts, with all our recipes designed in-house,” the Brewery said.

“We'll introduce new products when they meet our high standards of taste and quality. We will also do ‘seasonal specials’ and one-offs that you’re most likely to find on draught, in our taproom or in a local bar in Edinburgh.”
