Hidden gem beach 2 hours from Nottingham is perfect for nature lovers

It's good to get away from the cut and thrust of daily life and escape for some fresh air and stunning views. And with the weather getting warmer it's a great time to head to the beach for some R&R.

And one beach that stands out as a hidden gem is around two hours from Nottingham and looks great for those looking to get away. Theddlethorpe Beach is definitely one for nature lovers with a superb unspoilt landscape of salt marshland and sands.

Saltfleetby Theddlethorpe Dunes are designated as a National Nature Reserve and there are a range of habitats here; tidal sand and mudflats, salt and freshwater marshes and sand dunes. The marshes behind the beach are one of only a few locations in the UK where the natterjack toad can be found, the Beach Guide website says.

The beach here is a vast expanse of flat sand extending in every direction. It seems the tide never fully comes in here and it is always a fair walk to the water's edge. With all this beach you don’t have to worry about it getting busy, because it never does, even in the height of summer.

The nearest town to the beach is Mablethorpe, so you could even stop for some fish and chips on the way home. Dogs are also allowed on Theddlethorpe.

One visitor to the beach wrote: "Dog friendly white sand and nature all around love this beach goes on for miles." And a second added: "Really pretty sandy path down to the beach. Lovely photos through wild grasses over the sand dunes."

If travelling via the A46 from Nottingham, the beach can be reached in around two hours so can easily be done in a day.
