Foodies have been left baffled after two chefs revealed why soy sauce bottles have two holes in the cap - and demonstrated how to use the little-known feature.
Sharing their discovery, the duo behind Bosh.tv shocked fans when they explained the reason behind the design. But it is well worth learning about the helpful feature.
In a video devoted to the feature, the pair use a bottle of the good stuff to show viewers how the trick works.
Impressively, it turns out the cap helps you to pour just the right amount of soy sauce. So you'll never need to risk drenching your dinner again.
Or as Kikkoman's website explains: "It is in fact a clever piece of design which allows you to control how fast the soy sauce is poured out."
Simply hold your finger over the 'control hole' while you pour from the other and you can choose how much sauce to add, drop by drop.
It's really that easy. You just need to locate the second hole, and then the bottle's award-winning Japanese design does the work for you.
Amazed, social media users responded with delight online.
"What the actual fudge," wrote one stunned commenter when reacting to the news.
"I didn't know! Thanks!" said a second. Meanwhile, someone revealed: "I'm Japanese and I've known this since I was a child."
Not everyone was so convinced, however, as they pointed out they wouldn't like customers to use this trick in restaurants.
Someone put: "Problem is now everybody at restaurants will touch this so everybody will have contaminated soy sauce." Another agreed: "An amazing tip just not one the public should be doing at public restaurants."
