Hidden Bristol beer garden to start serving incredible roast dinners

A pop-up beer garden in Bristol city centre will start serving one of the city's best roast dinners this weekend.

Bridewell Beer Garden launched on July 4 and proved hugely popular in its first month, with tables filling up every weekend since the first pint was pulled.

And from this weekend onwards it will be taken up a notch, as Tubby's Corner will be dishing up its legendary roasts every Sunday.

Headed up by chef Huw Lloyd, Tubby's Corner has been operating as a pop-up at The Love Inn in Stokes Croft for three years, over which time it has built up a loyal following of roast-loving diners.

With a passion for reggae music, Huw's roasts feature a number of Jamaican influences including jerk stock gravy and plantain, setting them apart from others in the city.

"After three years of improving and serving my roasts, I'm really grateful to be asked by Bridewell Beer Garden to start serving there," said Huw, who has been running a roast dinner takeaway service while the Love Inn has been closed due to Covid-19.

"At the Love Inn I was doing about 70 roasts a week but it's going to be around 200 at Bridewell, It's a big step up but I'm ready for it.

"It's a great venue and I can't wait to get going this weekend."

Huw cut his teeth at Rice & Things in Cheltenham Road, where he worked under the tutelage of one of the best Caribbean cooks in the city having moved to Bristol 10 years ago.

Bridewell Beer Garden has both outdoor and indoor seating, which is used in the event of rain.

Tables for the beer garden and Tubby's Corner must be booked in advance, which can be done on Bridewell Beer Garden's website.

Steffan Chelland, co-director at Bridewell Beer Garden, said: "We're huge fans of Tubby's Corner, so we're delighted to have them join us at the Bridewell Beer Garden each Sunday, starting this weekend.

"You can expect Huw's usual top-notch roasts with Jamaican influences such as the jerk bone stock gravy and beautifully roasted plantain.

"I'm even throwing my famous Bloody Mary mix on the menu too. It won't be one to miss."
