Hickory's opens new family-friendly restaurant near Manchester - with its own kids' cinema

The much-loved family-friendly chain Hickory's has finally opened its new restaurant in Wilmslow.

For a company that hasn't yet ventured into Manchester, it's already well-known by families who have sampled the goods at its sites in Poynton, Chester, Crewe and further afield.

So it's no surprise that its newest venture in Wilmslow is expecting to pull in the crowds.

The Hickory’s team took over the site on Racecourse Road nearly two years ago and it was scheduled to open last April before Covid put a stop to the plans.

Now, after some soft launch events to help get the team in full swing, the place is finally open and taking bookings.

As with its other sites, families can expect the 'legendary welcome and super-authentic BBQ classics'.

Its menu is 'packed full of the flavours of the deep south' with classic smokehouse dishes such as ribs, brisket and pulled pork all smoked low ‘n’ slow in their specially imported smokers sitting alongside a selection of signature steaks, burgers and a variety of main courses.

Families love the tasty milkshakes and desserts, including Hickory's famous Fro-Co frozen custard, where guests can head over to the topping station to select their favourites.

There's even a cinema room for kids, so they can watch a film before or after they eat.

Hickory’s founder Neil McDonnell said: "At times it's felt like this day would never come, but we are finally there and I know the team are all raring to go.

"One benefit of the delayed opening has been the extra time it has given us to finesse the design of the restaurant, add a few quirky extra touches and make sure our team are all very excited and ready to go.

"We’ve had an overwhelming amount of support from the local community here in Wilmslow, so, as you can imagine, we can’t wait to welcome you all and show you what we have done with the place."

The independent Cheshire based group has been operating in Chester for over 21 years - with their cocktail bar, Barlounge and Upstairs At The Grill, an award-winning steakhouse restaurant - before opening their first Hickory’s 11 years ago.

Wilmslow's site had been planning to open next week but managed to open ahead of schedule on Friday, July 16.

As well as featuring its own sportsbook, with TV screens and sports memorabilia, there's also a Garden Room - with a fully retractable roof and sides so people can enjoy their meals in the space whatever the weather.
