Hibs want players to take a 'year-long wage cut' as financial fears grow

Hibs have asked their stars to take a wage cut for up to a year in a bid to overcome the coronavirus crisis, according to a report.

But owner Ron Gordon is yet to provide full details of what level of a cut he wants them to take.

The American is keen for players to mull over whether they think it’s the right thing for them in principle before he asks them to take a cut.

Hibs have already made three coaches redundant with Colin Nish, Lee Makel and Grant Murray all leaving the club in recent days as they look to secure themselves financially.

Gordon bought the club last summer and has had to pay out for axing Paul Heckingbottom as well as hiring Jack Ross.

The playing squad are currently deferring a portion of their salaries but they might not be willing to cut their wages for a full year and that could lead to a fire sale.

They are due to get a payment on their deferred wages at the end of the year, report the Scottish Sun.

The likes of Martin Boyle and Ofir Marciano are out of contract next summer but would both command transfer fees this summer.

Florian Kamberi is also interesting clubs, with Rangers considering a £150k move for the frontman to make his loan move permanent.
