Hibs transfer update as Harry McKirdy joined by French Ligue 1 striker in late deadline day swoop

It was a classic late night transfer window special at Easter Road as Hibs announced TWO new strikers in the early hours of the morning.

Harry McKirdy was an ongoing saga throughout the day - but Lee Johnson finally landed his man from Swindon Town on a three-year deal, subject to FIFA approval and international clearance. The striker hit 23 goals in 44 games last season and has already hit two in his first five matches this term as he looks to hit the ground running in the capital.

He can play directly through the middle or on both flanks and adds versatility to the attack where he is joined by another hitman in the shape of 6ft 4’ Mykola Kukharevych. The Ukrainian Under-21 international makes the move to Leith from French Ligue 1 side ES Troyes AC on a season-long loan agreement with the striker a 'different profile' to the others currently in Johnson's top team.

On his capture of McKirdy, the Easter Road gaffer said: “We’re excited to bring Harry to Hibernian FC, and we’re delighted that he chose to come here after interest from several different clubs.

“Everyone can see how well he’s been performing over the last 12-months or so and he’s a player that’s coming into the prime years of his career.

“He’s someone that shows his pitch personality and has a real desire to keep on improving. Alongside this, he also gives us extra options in the forward areas being able to play centrally and out wide. We can’t wait to get started with him.”

On Kukharevych, the Hibs boss added: "We’re really happy to welcome Mykola Kukharevych to Hibernian FC for the upcoming campaign.

“He’s a young striker that has gained minutes at a high level, and we believe he has all the attributes to be a real success in the Scottish game.

“Mykola is a different profile to the other strikers we have in the building, and we look forward to working with him.”

The duo join young Manchester United defender Will Fish in making the move to Hibs on deadline day. The centre-back, 19, also joins on loan for the season.
