Hibs transfer latest as David Mitchell signs and Jack Ross close sin on more deadline day arrivals

Hibs have completed the signing of goalkeeper David Mitchell on a two-year-deal.

The 31-year-old joins from Clyde as back-up to first choice Matt Macey, as revealed by Record Sport on Friday, and is the first arrival of what could be a busy deadline day at Easter Road.

Jack Ross was keen to bolster his goalkeeping department following Ofir Marciano’s exit at the end of the season and, with Kevin Dabrowski also pushing Macey, he now has three senior keepers on his books.

Ross is hopeful of finalising a loan swoop for Middlesbrough defender Nathan Wood ahead of the deadline too.

The England youth international was at Easter Road for a medical at the weekend before returning south to report for England U20s duty ahead of their friendly with Romania next week.

Ross said after Saturday’s win over Livingston: “He gives us that defensive reinforcement. He is a really good young player with a big future ahead of him. He’ll hopefully join us for the season and strengthen the group.”

The Hibs boss is also keen on adding to his forward options ahead of the deadline after Christian Doidge was ruled out until Christmas.

Star man Kevin Nisbet has not travelled with Scotland for tomorrow night’s World Cup qualifier with Denmark.

Swansea are among a clutch of clubs interested in the striker with Hibs slapping a £5million price tag on his head.

Jamie Gullan meanwhile looks to be on his way out. The 22-year-old striker has been told he can leave with Kilmarnock keen on a loan deal.
