Hibs to take Linfield striker on trial as Paul Heckingbottom looks to improve options

Hibs have handed a trial to Linfield striker Michael O'Connor, according to a report.

The 21-year-old spent the last few months on loan at Waterford FC in the League of Ireland but Paul Heckingbottom could give him the opportunity to move to Easter Road.

The loan deal came to an end at the end of the League of Ireland season on Friday and he will take a break before returning to the Belfast giants.

Because O'Connor was registered in the League of Ireland, he can't play for Linfield until January and that will give him an opportunity to test himself at Hibs.

Edinburgh Live report that the forward will spend a week at Hibs' East Mains training ground in a bid to win a move across the Irish Sea.

Hibs have struggled in attack this season with Florian Kamberi and Christian Doidge being used as a lone striker while Oli Shaw has been kept in reserve.

Kamberi has netted five times in 13 games this season but hasn't scored since a 2-2 draw with St Johnstone back in August.

Doidge has also struggled since his move from Forest Green Rovers with two goals in his 13 games, both of them coming in the Betfred Cup.

Hibs haven't won a Premiership game since the opening day of the season and threw away a two goal lead against Ross County on Saturday.

O'Connor started his career at Dundalk before moving to Shamrock Rovers where he had a loan spell with Finn Harps. He then joined Linfield in July 2018 before moving to Waterford earlier this year.

He was previously linked with moves to Dundee and Ross County.
