Hibs have unveiled their third kit for the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership season and it pays tribute to the fans who have financially supported the club.
Fans have purchased season tickets, contributed to the NHS ticketing fund, and those who donated via funding vehicle Hibernian Supporters Limited will have their name woven into the shirt as a thank you for their support.
Hibs announced last month that the club’s current expenditure was unsustainable and cuts would have to be made.
Owner Ron Gordon predicted revenue would be down by up to 50 per cent this season, and consultations with players and staff over wage cuts would have to take place.
Since then, nearly 1000 supporters either refreshed or started their monthly pledge to HSL, who made their biggest monthly donation in a year, gifting £24, 429.11 to the club.
Members who joined before the cut off point of October 21 2019 last year will have their names featured on the new yellow third strip for next season.
Chief executive Leeann Dempster was keen to recognise the contributions made and felt a gesture such as the players wearing the fans’ names on their shirt was fitting.
“We are all indebted to our supporters and not least those who have backed Hibernian Supporters – since its inception and in recent times.
“The regular, increasing payments from Hibernian Supporters will enable us to emerge from the other side of what has been an uncertain period in as strong a position as we can be. I have said it often enough that we are humbled if not surprised by the level of support.
“Hibernian supporters have demonstrated time and time again not just what their club means to them, but that they will do whatever it takes to play their part.
“We liked the idea of the shirt as one opportunity for us to say ‘thank you’. Quite simply, it will be worn with pride.
