Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet handed Euro 2020 boost after Scotland injury blow

Oli McBurnie is a major doubt for Euro 2020 after the Sheffield United striker has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Blades caretaker manager and former Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom confirmed the Scotland international has suffered a broken metatarsal.

He said: “Oli is out for the season. He’s got a stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal.”

McBurnie will miss United's remaining league games and is unlikely to be fit in time for this summer's Euros.

Scotland's options up front are now extremely limited which could open the door for the likes of Kevin Nisbet who is vying to be a part of Steve Clarke's squad.

The Hibs man was called up for the recent World Cup qualifiers against Austria, Israel and Faroe Islands amid an impressive debut season at Easter Road.

And there's no doubt his chances of making the Euros squad have enhanced with McBurnie's potential absence.

Nisbet revealed he fulfilled a promise to his late dad by getting the call-up last month.

He said: “It was one of the last conversations we had together. He told me to go and get myself in the Scotland squad.

“I’m happy to fulfill that promise I made to him. My full family are proud and it’s a great day for me.

“I’m buzzing. It’s been a long season and I’ve been there or thereabouts a few times but just not made the cut.

“I’m delighted and think I’ve made my family very proud.”
