Hibs striker in 'relief' claim after banishing scoring woes to help earn vital win

Kevin Nisbet says it was a relief to get back to scoring ways for Hibs against St Johnstone on Saturday.

The Scotland striker from Cambuslang had netted once in eight Premiership matches before finding a goal in Hibs' 2-1 victory over St Johnstone.

Nisbet's form has come under scrutiny amid Hibs' run of five straight league defeats prior to beating Saints - who had Craig Bryson sent off - on Saturday.

But now he has found a way back to the goal scoring trail, the 24-year-old is keen for this to be the start of a good run of form. However, Hibs' team ambition is the most important thing to him.

Nisbet told Hibs' club media: “The goal meant a lot. Being back on the scoresheet and celebrating again felt good.

“The last few games I’ve felt a lot sharper, back to like I was last season, and I knew if I kept getting myself in the right positions, kept working hard, then I’d score. I proved that tonight.

“I had a similar period at Dunfermline where I didn’t score for a few games, then I scored one and I just kept scoring after that. Hopefully it’s the same thing!

"When you’ve had a run like we’ve had, and then to go a goal down like that, a lot of teams would fold, but we’ve got a great group in there, we’re all together, and we all trust each other.

“We kept going until the final whistle and we got the result we full deserved. Even when there were 11 people on the pitch each, we controlled the game.

"We conceded a sloppy goal, which we will go back and look at, but I think the character of the lads – losing five on the bounce and coming back – was great. The result was fully deserved.”
