Hibs star backed to become 'national hero' amid form slump

Hibs hero Tam McManus reckons Cambuslang's Kevin Nisbet could become the toast of the nation this week - despite his slow start to the season.

The Easter Road forward has struggled for form, scoring just two goals in nine Premiership matches for boss Jack Ross.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has still called upon Nisbet for international duty this week as the nation take on Moldova and Denmark in two crucial World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Victory over Moldova would secure a play-off spot for the Qatar tournament next year. Star striker Lyndon Dykes is suspended and Nisbet has been backed to fill the void.

McManus said in his Daily Record column : "Moldova is a must-win game and I guarantee every Tartan Army footsoldier will think the best way to shoot them down will be with two strikers from the start.

"If Kevin gets the nod beside Che Adams then it’s a powerful double act I reckon will be too hot for the Group F whipping boys. And if he scores a goal to help cement a World Cup play-off spot he’d be a national hero.

"When he was handed his first Scotland start against Moldova on September 4, Kevin was fresh from hitting goals in back-to-back wins over Livingston and Kilmarnock.

"But in 11 games since he has only one solitary strike against Rangers to show for his efforts as Hibs’ form has plunged off a cliff.

"Steve Clarke is loyal. Kevin is in his circle of trust. With Lyndon Dykes suspended he could get the nod to play beside Che Adams against Moldova and it’s a partnership which I reckon could spark him back to life."
