Hibs set for surprise David Mitchell move as Clyde keeper targeted to 'compete' with Matt Macey

Hibs are lining up a surprise move for Clyde keeper David Mitchell, according to a report.

Jack Ross already has Matt Macey and promising Polish keeper Kevin Dabrowski available to him between the sticks, but the departure of Ofir Marciano has left them short of experienced cover.

The Daily Record report that has led them to 31-year-old Mitchell, currently playing for Clyde in League One.

Mitchell has enjoyed an expansive career, running out for five different clubs including Dundee, Ayr United and Falkirk.

He had struggled with injuries while playing under Paul Hartley and Ray McKinnon at the Falkirk Stadium and was allowed to join Clyde in 2019.

Mitchell has since put his troubling injury record behind him though - save for one spell towards the end of the 2019/20 season, he has played virtually every minute for the Bully Wee.

He's only missed one game this season and his impressive displays for Clyde have convinced Ross he's ready for a return to the Scottish Premiership.

He will likely go in as third choice but the Hibs boss wants to see him push Macey and Dabrowski for the starting spot.

Ross has strong connections at Clyde where he made more appearances than he did for any other club as a player between 1999-2005.
