Hibs 'set' for Josh Doig transfer windfall with former left-back prodigy in line for Serie A switch

Hibs could be set for an unexpected transfer windfall in the upcoming window - with former youngster Josh Doig set to depart Hellas Verona for fellow Italian club Torino.

Doig joined Hellas Verona in 2022 after two stellar years at Hibs, and has largely impressed in his time on the Mediterranean despite a slow start to life in the north east. Just 21 years of age, Doig has a fruitful career ahead of him and is generally seen as the long-term replacement to Andrew Robertson and Kieran Tierney in the Scotland national team setup.

However, despite Verona's narrow relegation survival from Serie A, it was always clear that he would be moved on; with sporting director Giovanni Sartori admitting that he would be headed for the exit after stating: 'Doig will sign for Torino' on Sport Italia.

A late move from Bologna - who house fellow Scotland starlet Lewis Ferguson in their ranks - almost derailed Torino's bid, but a move is close and will land Hibs a decent windfall.

Having signed for Verona for £3million, Torino will secure his services for around £5m; and with Hibs netting a 27.5% sell on fee, it will net them a cool £1.4m to be added to the deal which saw Kevin Nisbet join Millwall for £2m.

How Lee Johnson will not spend his transfer budget is up to the Hibs recruitment team; they have spent £800,000 on Dylan Levitt and a permanent move for Elie Youan, whilst Joao Wollacott and Max Boruc are also on the books. But with money coming in for Nisbet and Doig, the club could strengthen further to put a dent in the race to become the best of the rest.
