Hibs Premiership clash with St Mirren in doubt as second Buddies star returns positive COVID-19 test

A second St Mirren player has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash with Hibernian.

Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick was confirmed to have returned a positive test for the illness earlier this week, forcing the Buddies stopper and roommate Lee Hodson - who plays for fellow top flight side Hamilton Academical - into self-isolation.

However, the visit of the Hibees has now been thrown into serious doubt after the Paisley side revealed another member of Jim Goodwin's squad was taking similar action after contracting the condition.

St Mirren say the relevant Scottish footballing authorities have been informed, with a decision now to be made on whether to push ahead with the game or postpone it until further notice.

A club statement read: "Following the most recent round of COVID testing, St Mirren Football Club can confirm that a second player has tested positive for COVID-19. This comes following the news of the positive test earlier this week.

"The club can confirm that it has followed all protocol to the letter and has informed all relevant authorities.

"We will be making no further comment at this time."
