Hibs' pre-season plans 'take shape' with Spain trip and return date set ahead of Euro qualifying bid

Hibs' pre-season plans are starting to take shape with the players returning in just TEN days time.

Edinburgh Evening News report that Lee Johnson's men will check back in to East Mains for testing on Thursday, 22 June - just days after Scotland complete a qualifying double-header for Euro 2024 against Norway and Georgia.

The players will have discovered their Europa Conference League second qualifying round opponents by this stage as all focus shifts to getting ready for the opening two-legged tie as the capital club attempt to reach the lucrative group stages. They would need to come through THREE ties in order to make the tournament proper with rivals Hearts entering the qualification stage one round later.

It is reported that friendly matches in the build up to those fixture and the Scottish Premiership season kick-off are still being finalised but it is believed a handful of games will be played throughout next month. They will also head out to Spain for a warm-weather training camp from July 6-14 before their opening European fixure.

Jimmy Jeggo can't wait to experience European football with the Hibees having previously got a taste for it with his former clubs including Austria Vienna and Sturm Graz.

He told the Hibs official website: “The club have been quite open about Europe. There are probably five or six teams that Europe should be the goal as a minimum every year – and Hibs are definitely one of those.

“It’s a big thing for this group. In terms of us growing as a team and getting to where we want to go, it’s a big step.

“This is where this club needs to be and we’re happy the final outcome went our way.

“As players, we want to be testing ourselves at that level, we want to achieve things and have those European nights at Easter Road. We now have the opportunity to do that.

“I’ve luckily been part of a couple of European campaigns but I’ve never managed to get into a group stage where you’ve got European football up until Christmas.

“That’s something I still want to achieve in my career and hopefully with Hibs, we can do that."
