Hibs owner Ron Gordon reveals he has turned down offers to sell stake in Easter Road club

Hibernian owner Ron Gordon has knocked back several big money offers to buy his stake in the club since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold of Scottish football.

The American businessman, who became majority shareholder at Easter Road last summer after acquiring the club from Sir Tom Farmer, said the coffers in Leith remain well-stocked with emergency cash available should costs need to be met.

Fans have been locked out of games indefinitely following the latest spike in coronavirus cases, with the Hibees predicted to make a seven-figure loss due to the impact of the virus on gate receipts.

Players were asked to take a wage cut before the start of the season, but Gordon remains committed to his investment, insisting there is "a facility that is there if [we] need it" to help meet the financial challenges caused by the pandemic.

He told BBC Scotland: "People do come, but no.

"Do I regret making this investment? Absolutely not. Has it been difficult from a business perspective? Absolutely. But from every other perspective it's been absolutely rewarding.

"I want to be part of Hibernian for a long time club and I want to make a difference at the club."

Jack Ross's side sit third in the Scottish Premiership table after an impressive start to the season which has seen the men in green and white take 17 points from their opening eight games.

The Easter Road outfit travel to champions Celtic on Sunday in search of their first win at the venue in ten years after a gutsy draw with Rangers last weekend.

And Gordon said he is "excited" by watching this Hibs side, adding: "The team is very balanced, playing very well, with a lot of conviction, a lot of belief. It's good, it's great. We're very fortunate to have Jack, he's a terrific manager.

"I'm excited. We're operating in a leaner budget and getting better results, which is a good thing.
