Hibs new boy Stephen McGinn outlines his Jack Ross spying mission and what his role at club has been

Stephen McGinn has shed light on his Jack Ross spying mission after signing for Hibs on a one year deal.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been part of the first-team operation this season, only not as a player.

McGinn and Ross know each other well from their days as captain and manager at St Mirren.

And with Hibs a touch short on staff at the start of the campaign, the former Buddies skipper was asked to come along and help out.

McGinn told Hibs TV: "We were a bit light on staff so I just came in to train, and with the COVID tests it was something I was able to do. The manager asked if I would help him out. Just watching the game from the stand and say what I see.

"I know exactly what he's looking for from his team, and if someone's not doing their job. Sometimes you can't see the full pitch from the touchline. It's something I've really enjoyed doing, and although I've only been a small part to it I've enjoyed it."

McGinn says he's keen to make an impact at Easter Road, even if he isn't quite ready to start matches yet.

He added: "The operation I had in January, and then the lockdown, it's been a long time I haven't played. It's not ideal but I've been training a while now and I feel fit.

"I'm looking to get a couple of games under my belt, and help if I'm required to help the boys out."

Ross explained why he was so keen to get the deal done.

He said: “For me, Stephen adds a lot to the group and the environment at HTC.

“You can never have enough good professionals with leadership qualities and we’re fortunate, as I’ve said repeatedly, to have a great core of those at Hibernian."
