Hibs loanee Josh Campbell opens Edinburgh City account with stunning long range effort

Hibernian youngster Josh Campbell staked an early goal of the season claim for Edinburgh City with an outstanding 25-yard effort in their 5-1 thumping of Brechin City.

The League Two outfit kicked off their fourth tier campaign in style with five different players getting on the scoresheet at Glebe Park.

Goals from Conrad Balatoni and Liam Brown had the Citizens two up before former Hibs midfielder Martin Scott reduced the deficit.

Blair Henderson added a third before Campbell - who signed a season-long loan deal at Ainslie Park last month - scored the pick of the bunch from long range, curling a brilliant effort over goalkeeper Lewis McMinn.

Daniel Jardine added a fifth late on to seal a commanding start to the campaign for James McDonagh's side, but it was Campbell's strike that caught the eye, even if he admitted he was not convinced it was hitting the target.

"I felt like it was never going to come down, I thought it was going over the bar," he told Edinburgh City TV.

"Taking it on from there, you just have to believe in yourself and I did."
