Hibs loan heroes set to square off in Serie B as Liam Henderson and Stephane Omeonga go head-to-head

Two Hibernian fan favourites are set to square off in Italy's second tier on Monday evening as Liam Henderson's Lecce host a Pescara side featuring Stephane Omeonga.

The loan pair were adored by the Easter Road faithful for their exploits during temporary stays in Leith, but have gone on to broaden their careers in Serie B.

Omeonga joined Pescara in the summer after leaving Genoa having spent time on loan at Hibs from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris while Henderson - who arrived from Celtic in 2015 - made Lecce stop number four on his tour of Italy after spells at Bari, Hellas Verona and Empoli.

The two sides are set to battle it out at the Stadio Via del Mare, with Lecce, under the management of ex-Juventus midfielder Eugenio Corini heavy favourites.

The Giallorossi have started the season in good form and sit just outside the play-off places as they bid for an immediate return to Serie A.

Henderson, who wrote himself into Hibs folklore with his pair of deliveries for Anthony Stokes and David Gray in the 2016 Scottish Cup final, was recently singled out as one of Serie B's top stars by pundit and former Napoli goalkeeper Vincenzo Sicignano.

He told Italian TV: "It's a real luxury for Lecce to have someone like him in their team. He's a phenomenal player who shows real quality and can play all across midfield.

"For me, he should be playing in Serie A with a big club.

"He can play as a holding midfielder, but I think his best role is just behind the strikers as an attacking midfielder.

"Lecce did extremely well when they signed him for this season."

Meanwhile, Pescara have had an awful start to the campaign, with just one point gained from their opening five games in a goalless draw with Chievo on the opening day.

Omeonga was confined to the bench as Massimo Oddo's side were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Parma last week.

He has featured in all five of their league fixtures so far and has been included in the squad as they bid for a first win of the campaign.

The game kicks off at 8pm in the UK.
