Hibs line-up v Hamilton predicted as injured trio set to force Jack Ross into reshuffle

Jamie Murphy is set to miss Hibernian's trip to Hamilton Academical after sustaining a hamstring injury in last weekend's win over Motherwell.

The forward pulled up in the second half of the 3-0 victory at Fir Park and was replaced by Jamie Gullan 14 minutes from time.

Former Accies midfielder Alex Gogic and full back Sean Mackie also remain out, forcing Jack Ross into a tactical rethink for the clash at the Fountain of Youth Stadium.

A win in South Lanarkshire would put the Hibees second in the Premiership after 17 games for the first time since 2000, but Murphy's injury means the Easter Road side will be unable to field an unchanged XI

Keep it simple

Tactically, Ross will have to approach the game in a different way, but he could hand a first league start of the season to one of his young guns.

Gullan has been pushing for a start in recent weeks and teed up Stephen McGinn for the Hibees' third in the win over Stephen Robinson's men.

The 21-year-old netted the equaliser at Cove Rangers coming in off the left in the Betfred Cup earlier this season and his recent performances have warranted more in the way of first team minutes.

Christian Doidge's goalscoring return at Motherwell and Kevin Nisbet's superb record on artificial surfaces this season - five goals in four games - mean a two man attack could start the game.

The absence of Gogic means Melker Hallberg will retain his place alongside Joe Newell in midfield, while Lewis Stevenson is likely to continue at left back should it be a four.

Don't forget about Drey

It is possible that Drey Wright's electric pace will be looked at as a more direct option in place of Murphy, but Ross has generally preferred to use the former St Johnstone man as a central player this season.

It was from that position he breached Rangers' previously impenetrable rearguard in September's 2-2 draw at Easter Road and he may line up as the 'spare' man in behind the front two, but in advance of the sitting Hallberg and Newell.

That would likely mean a slight change to the back line, with Paul McGinn moving centrally and Martin Boyle reprising his role at wing back, while Josh Doig - usually preferred in a three/five - would replace Stevenson in Mackie's absence.

Newell would sit deeper alongside Hallberg, with the Swede ideally offering protection for the English midfielder to dictate the pace of the game.

There would also be plenty of scope to change should the game require it, with the likes of Gullan, the returning Kyle Magennis and Stephen McGinn among the subs.
