Hibs Kevin Nisbet injury update as Jack Ross reveals reason for striker's Alloa absence

Kevin Nisbet should return for Hibernian's Premiership meeting with Dundee United this weekend after sitting out the Betfred Cup quarter-final win over Alloa with an injury.

Jack Ross confirmed the striker was struggling at half-time in the 4-0 victory at Hamilton Accies after sustaining an injury in the opening 45 minutes.

It was announced before kick off that Nisbet had been rested for the narrow win at the Indodrill Stadium with a muscle strain.

The men in green and white toiled in his absence, going a goal down after Kevin Cawley's shot ricocheted in off Paul Hanlon to give the part-time hosts a shock lead.

Christian Doidge struck twice in the second period, his third and fourth in his last three games, to turn the game around and send the Hibees back to Hampden early next year.

However, the green and white faithful will not have to wait nearly as long for Nisbet's return, with the forward expected to be back in time for the visit of the Terrors on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Ross said: "Kevin just had a slight muscle problem from the weekend.

"He trained a bit on Monday and if he had been fully fit he would have played.

"But hopefully he’ll be back for this weekend."

Nisbet netted his 11th goal of the campaign in the win at Accies, his ninth league strike of the season.
