Hibs' Josh Doig shortlisted for Scottish Football Writer's Young Player of the Year award

Josh Doig has been shortlisted for the Scottish Football Writer’s Young Player of the Year Award.

The Hibs teenager is in contention for the gong alongside Rangers’ Nathan Patterson, Celtic’s David Turnbull and Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson.

Doig has had an excellent breakthrough season under Jack Ross, establishing himself as the first choice left wing back and notched his first senior goal in a 2-0 Premiership win over Kilmarnock back in January.

Doig has made 31 appearances in total for the Hibees this season, contributing an impressive four assists.

The former Hearts academy players’ displays have been attracting attention from a host of big English clubs including Manchester City, Leicester City and Leeds United.

However, it would likely take a healthy transfer fee to get Hibs to consider selling after Doig penned a new long-term contract in February.

He’s committed his future to the club until 2026.

Addressing the speculation earlier this season, Doig said: “It is obviously exciting.

"The first I seen of it was when my dad showed me on Twitter. It is still madness to myself, but I can’t focus on that too much, we need to focus on the game on Sunday.

"But it is exciting and it is a confidence boost for myself when big clubs like that seem to be interested.

“What’s for me won’t go by me, I have always said that. I am not looking ahead to the summer, I have been just focusing on the games.”
