Hibs issue Rangers apology as Irvine Welsh's alleged Alfredo Morelos comments spark controversy

Hibs have apologised to Rangers after alleged comments made by author Irvine Welsh on a club TV broadcast.

The Trainspotting author was a guest for Wednesday night's clash at Easter Road, which saw a first half flashpoint involving Alfredo Morelos.

Welsh is alleged to have hit out at the Colombian for an apparent stamp on Ryan Porteous though so far no audio or video of his comments has been produced.

A number of Rangers fans complained to OFCOM after the match, with calls for the SFA to investigate what was said.

The broadcast regulator is believed to have received around 14 complaints but cannot act as Hibs TV is not governed by OFCOM.

Now the capital club have issued an apology for the alleged comments.

The Ibrox club's supporters' liaison officer wrote on Twitter: "We are disappointed at the comments made in relation to Alfredo and our club.

"Hibs have apologised to the club today.

"Nevertheless, we are sure these comments will be investigated by the football authorities."
