Hibs identify Rangers bottle thrower as club flag up four home fans to police

Hibs have identified four fans involved in throwing missiles from the stand during last Friday night’s game against Rangers .

A half bottle of vodka was thrown at Rangers’ Borna Barisic whilst he was lying on the deck after being grounded by a challenge from Ryan Porteous, with the visitors 3-0 up at the time.

The Hibs defender was shown a straight red card for the challenge, and home fans in the East Stand reacted by launching a number of objects as the Gers Croatian international.

The Easter Road club will pass CCTV footage on to Police Scotland in order to assist with their investigations.

The incident is the latest in a number to have occurred at Hibs matches this year.

Rangers’ last trip to Leith saw a fan leave the stand in order to confront captain James Tavernier , while a Buckfast bottle was thrown at Celtic’s Scott Sinclair as he prepared to take a corner during a William Hill Scottish Cup quarter-final.

A Hibs spokesperson said: “We will continue to review the footage, and we expect to identify any others involved.

“Fans must understand that throwing missiles is dangerous for the players and for fellow fans, and it and blackens the good name of the club.

“All supporters identified as taking part in any unacceptable behaviour will be dealt with by the Club and by the legal process.

“We invested in enhanced CCTV cameras to tackle precisely this kind of behaviour, and those who misbehave should know we will leave no stone unturned to identify them and bring them to book.”
