Hibs hoping to add new goalkeeping coach as Jack Ross looks to recruit former member of Sunderland backroom staff

Hibernian are hopeful of adding former Premiership goalkeeper Craig Samson to their backroom staff.

Current Easter Road goalkeeping coach Alan Combe is reportedly set to leave the club, with Jack Ross lining up the ex-Dundee United and Motherwell keeper as his replacement.

Ross brought Samson to Sunderland while manager at the Stadium of Light, however the former Kilmarnock goalkeeper departed to join League One Rochdale after the Hibs boss was sacked by the Black Cats.

The 36-year-old also represented St Mirren in the top flight and kept goal as the Buddies lifted the 2013 League Cup courtesy of a 3-2 win over Hearts at Hampden.

It comes as the Easter Road outfit prepare for talks with the first team squad over a potential wage cut as the club looks to mitigate the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Ross has previously warned that any addition to the playing staff is on hold until club coffers can be properly assessed.

The Leith side return to training at East Mains next week, but are hoping to have agreed a wage cut before then.
