Hibs hit 7000 season tickets sold as Easter Road fans show loyalty during crisis

Hibs have reached 7,000 season tickets sold despite the uncertain future of Scottish football.

Since the packages went on sale in March, the Easter Road faithful have rallied behind their club to provide generous financial backing during the coronavirus crisis.

The Edinburgh club pushed back their early bird discount by a month last week.

And in that week another 1,000 Hibs fans have secured their seat for the 2020/21 season.

That comes despite no assurances when fans will even be permitted to attend games, with some epidemiologists predicting such a return to normality cannot be allowed to happen without a vaccine or other treatment is developed.

That could see no fans at games until early next year or later.

The early bird discount was extended until June 4 and will be lifted on the same day seats are released from existing season ticket holders who do not wish to renew.

Supporters can buy or renew through a 10-month interest-free finance plan.

Hibs' Edinburgh rivals Hearts meanwhile have announced a season ticket guarantee, through which fans will see 18 home games no matter what.

Any games that go behind closed doors in Gorgie next season will be carried over on season tickets to the 2021/22 campaign.

The current season looks set to be ended early with a May 25 UEFA deadline for the SPFL to announce the fate of the Scottish top flight.

A vote in April saw 81 per cent of clubs back an early end to the season.
