Hibs have bid for Jamie McCart rejected but 'will return with second offer'

Hibs have seen an opening bid for St Johnstone's Jamie McCart rejected this afternoon, but the Easter Road club are being tipped to return with an improved second offer.

The 24-year-old defender impressed for Saints last season, and played an important role in the McDiarmid Park club claiming both the League Cup and Scottish Cup in what could easily be considered the best campaign in St Johnstone history.

According to the Courier, Jack Ross sanctioned a bid worth just less than £200,000 for the ex-Celtic youth player, only to see Callum Davidson's side swiftly turn it down.

However, a series of reports suggest Ross will return with a heftier offer, with with the Hibees gaffer clearly impressed by McCart's role in St. Johnstone defeating his side in May's Scottish Cup final at Hampden.

MK Dons and Rotherham United have also been linked with McCart this summer, but it remains to be seen whether any club can match Saints' valuation of McCart.
