Hibs hand former Airdrie star long-term contract extension as he vows to make 11-year grind worthwhile

Former Airdrie midfielder Josh Campbell has signed a long-term contract extension at Hibs until the summer of 2025.

The 21-year-old was one of Diamonds manager Ian Murray's first signings as boss in 2019, joining the League One side on loan from Easter Road. He made 15 appearances.

After a loan at League Two Edinburgh City last season, Campbell has started the last four matches for Hibees head coach Jack Ross.

That includes a stunning display in last month's 3-1 Premier Sports Cup semi-final success over Rangers.

After making his way through the ranks, Hibs' combative midfielder is keen to make the most of his extension.

Campbell told Hibs TV: "I’ve been working so hard – I’ve been here for 11 years so I know how hard it is to get into the team.

"I’ve managed to do that but now it’s about keeping on working hard and keeping doing what I'm doing.

"I’ve always believed in myself but having the players around me in the first team, and the gaffer backing me and telling me not to worry about mistakes helps in terms of being able to go out and play with confidence.

"The gaffer and Ben (Kensell, chief executive), are trying to build something here and that, along with the players who have already signed new deals, really made me want to stay.”
