'Hibs fans were right to call me a fat so and so' - Tommy Wright

Tommy Wright has opened up on his weight loss during lockdown, joking that Hibernian fans were right to call him a 'fat so-and-so'.

Former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Wright is back in the Scottish Premiership after becoming Kilmarnock's new manager.

The 57-year-old has shed over two stone since stepping down as St Johnstone boss back in May.

Wright says he embarked on his weight loss journey after being stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

He joked that he "walked the length of the Sahara Desert" during lockdown, and as a result has lost considerable weight.

“I didn’t actually get the break I envisaged because of Covid. I had holidays planned and trips to clubs abroad and in England to keep improving as a coach and a manager," Wright said.

“I was able to do some stuff online through the FA so that was good. The FitBit has informed me I have walked the length of the Sahara Desert, so I think that's far enough.

“I played a lot of golf when I could and I started to walk. Unfortunately, with my knees, I cannot do any running, so I did a lot of walking.

“I built up to 70kms a week, my training shoes have done more kilometres than my car over the last period of time and I lost a lot of weight, about 2.5 stone.

“Maybe the Hibs fans were right to call me a fat so and so! But I’m ready to get back.”
