Hibs fans promised refunds after Alan Stubbs charity gig cancelled and organisers 'vanish'

Football fans who forked out for an expensive charity dinner which didn’t go ahead will get their money back, according to organisers.

We revealed Hibs supporters had been left in the dark for more than a year after the event was cancelled and the organiser vanished.

Fans paid between £750 and £1250 for tables at an exclusive dinner, billed as An Audience with Alan Stubbs, at Prestonfield House Hotel, Edinburgh, for April last year.

The aim was to raise cash for homelessness charity Steps to Hope.

However when the pandemic hit, the event was rearranged for July 2020 and that was also cancelled.

Hibs fans took to social media to complain about their repeated failed attempts to contact Alex Hurry from Capital Events Management Ltd and said he had “disappeared”.

But after our story, a statement appeared on Capital Events Facebook page which claimed to be on behalf of Hurry and mum Sandra, who is listed as a director.

The rambling post alleges only 67 tickets were sold for a 200 capacity venue and Hurry had been depressed and working down south. It added fans would be contacted this week to offer them a refund or a ticket for another event featuring Stubbs.

But one fan, who paid more than £400, said: “He’s told another pack of lies. We’re supposed to be getting told on Tuesday about refunds but we know he’s told other people, including Steps to Hope charity, he doesn’t know when the money will be refunded.”

Repeated attempts to contact Hurry by the Record have failed, with no response to our calls and messages.
