Hibs fans and former striker react to fixture announcement with sly dig at Hearts

Hibs fans have taken a dig at city rivals Hearts following the Premiership fixture announcement - with a former striker even getting in on the act.

Grant Holt led the jokes about 'missing' the Edinburgh Derby clash with the Jambos from the top flight fixture list following the Gorgie club's controversial relegation to the second tier.

Several other members of the Easter Road faithful took the opportunity to crown the game against West Lothian outfit Livingston as "the new derby".

Jack Ross' side face Kilmarnock on the opening day of the season before a trip to the Tony Macaroni Stadium a week later.

However, the lack of derby tie with Hearts was a source of amusement for Hibees on social media, with Holt taking the opportunity to wind up the Tynecastle faithful.

Holt, who scored in a 3-1 Scottish Cup replay win over Hearts in 2017, joked: "Can't find the Edinburgh derby on there have i missed it."

However, @hfclaurence was less impressed, writing: "This whole "where are Hearts" patter from Hibs das needs to stop immediately. It was brutal the first time and it's just as brutal now."

Meanwhile, @DennisBurrell1 looked forward to a January derby, posting: "Excellent fixtures to start the big league season. Livingston new year derby should be a cracker."

@James_Garvie added: "Hibs v Livi..New year derby...the new normal."

And @CrambChantelle wrote: "Screaming Hibs/Livi is the new derby, even at new year."

A Boxing Day clash away at Ibrox also jumped out at some fans, with the green and white faithful desperate to see their side in the flesh before the end of the year.

Hibs fan Matthew Wilson wrote: "Rangers away Boxing Day. Hope fans are back by then."
