Hibs face anxious wait after player tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of Aberdeen clash

Hibernian face an anxious wait to discover whether a first team player who tested positive for COVID-19 has contracted the virus.

The Easter Road side believe the player - who has not been named - has presented a 'false positive' result after club officials received word from the private firm used by a host of Premiership sides.

According to the Scottish Sun, a second test, this time administered by the NHS, has been carried out, with the results due early on Sunday.

As it stands, the test will not affect the clash with Aberdeen at Easter Road on Sunday, which is due to kick off at 4:30pm.

However, Edinburgh Live understands reports training was suspended are wide of the mark, with the entire first team going through their preparations as normal.

Seven St Mirren players tested positive for the virus in pre-season, but retesting later proved six returned false positive results.

Jack Ross's men are unbeaten in their opening five Premiership games and can go level on points with Rangers at the top of the league with a win over the Dons.

They completed the signing of Jamie Murphy on an initial loan deal from the Ibrox side on Saturday, with the move set to become permanent next season.
