Hibs explain Glenn Middleton Rangers return as winger has loan spell cut short

Hibs have explained that Martin Boyle's early return from injury led to the decision to send Glenn Middleton back early from his loan spell.

The 19-year-old hadn't played since October and there was speculation he would return to Rangers in January.

Today he was pictured training with Steven Gerrard 's side after his initial season-long loan was cut short by Hibs .

The club said: “Initially due to run until the end of the season, Glenn has been allowed to return to Ibrox ahead of the January transfer window opening, when he will be free to feature for Steven Gerrard's side.

“Brought in as an option out wide following the loss of Martin Boyle to injury, the Australian international’s return to fitness and top form ahead of schedule has limited Glenn’s first team involvement of late.

“He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Easter Road.”

Middleton made only four starts during his loan spell, with his final appearance coming in a 2-2 draw with Livingston on October 30.
