Hibs defender Ryan Porteous reflects on strong start to campaign and pride at Scotland U21 call

Ryan Porteous has reflected on a "strong start" to the season with Hibs, and his pride at being called up to the Scotland under-21 squad.

The 21-year-old has performed well alongside Paul Hanlon at the heart of the Easter Road defence, with Jack Ross' men yet to concede from open play this season.

And his form has been rewarded with a call-up to Scot Gemmill's U21 squad for upcoming trip to Lithuania.

Porteous told the official Hibs website: “I feel like I say this all the time but it’s true. It’s always an honour to go away with Scotland, at any age level.

“I enjoy working with Scot and the rest of the staff. We’ve got a good squad and we’ll go there looking to win.

“Like every young Scottish player it’s obviously a big goal of mine to break into the full squad and it was good to get a taste of that last season. I think it just makes you even hungrier to get back there but I know that only comes from doing well week to week for Hibs.

“We’ve had a strong start to the season – as a defence and as a team – and we just need to keep pushing on to see how far we can take it.”
