Hibs defender Paul Hanlon replaces Leeds United star in Scotland squad for Czech Republic clash

Hibernian defender Paul Hanlon has been called into the Scotland squad for the Nations league clash with the Czech Republci at Hampden as Steve Clarke continues to reward the Easter Road backline for their strong start to the campaign.

The 30-year-old, who last received a call up in November 2017, join Ryan Porteous and Paul McGinn among the set up after Leeds United captain Liam Cooper returned to Elland Road following an injury.

Hanlon sat out the Betfred Cup win over Cove Rangers on Saturday having previously been-ever present for the men in green and white this campaign.

Jack Ross has just 13 fit players for Tuesday's tie with League One Forfar Athletic as a result of injuries and international caps, with Alex Gogic and Ofir Marciano joining the Scottish cohort in representing Cyprus and Israel respectively.

Hanlon was called into the national squad for a friendly with the Netherlands at Pittodrie over three years ago, but failed to get off the bench.

The Hibs defender currently holds the record for the most Scotland under-21 caps without making an appearance for the first team having appeared 23 times for the young side.

However, that statistic could be ended should he appear on Wednesday on an evening that could see three Hibees make their international bows.

Hibs manager Ross said: “I’m delighted for Paul. It’s thoroughly deserved after the strong start to the season he’s had.

“Paul is a manager’s dream to work with. He’s a model professional and a consistent performer.

“I know how much this means to him and it reflects well on the club to have the two Pauls and Ryan involved.

“I’ve no doubt all three will give good accounts of themselves."
