Darren McGregor escapes SFA rap but Alfredo Morelos cited for alleged Ryan Porteous stamp

Darren McGregor will not face any action over an alleged stamp on Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara during Hibernian’s midweek defeat to Rangers - however Alfredo Morelos could be hit with a three game ban.

The Colombian forward has been charged by the SFA over an alleged stamp on Ryan Porteous before going on to score the only goal in a 1-0 win for the visitors.

Referee Kevin Clancy deemed it accidental at the time but the governing body has decided to hit the striker with a notice of complaint.

He’ll face a fast track tribunal hearing on Tuesday, February 2, and could miss the next three league games.

McGregor meanwhile had been cited for a tangle of legs with the Finnish international in the second half after wrestling with the Rangers midfielder.

However, he will face no action after an expert three man panel made up of former referees deemed it an accidental coming together.

The cases were the first heard since former compliance officer Claire Whyte departed her role last week.

The governing body has also asked Hibs to provide footage of alleged comments made by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh directed towards Rangers forward Morelos.

The 62-year-old, appearing as a pundit on Hibs TV’s ‘The Match,’ attracted the ire of Rangers fans on social media, many of whom complained to Ofcom over the incident.

Hibs have since apologised to Rangers, but further sanctions may follow.
