Hibs cup hero Liam Henderson wins promotion to Serie A with Verona

Hibs' Scottish Cup winning hero Liam henderson will be playing in Serie A next season after helping Hellas Verona to promotion.

I Gialloblu were 2-0 down from the first leg of their promotion play-off against Cittadella and seemed destined for another season in Serie B.

However goals from Mattia Zaccagni, Samuel Di Carmine and Karim Laribi saw them turn things round on a dramatic night at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Henderson, who famously delivered the corner that resulted in David Gray’s dramatic stoppage time winner for Hibs in the 2016 Scottish Cup final, made the move to Italy from Celtic last year, initially signing for Bari.

However, financial difficulties meant I Galletti were forbidden from competing in Serie B this season and went out of business.

Henderson made the move to Verona and will now be rubbing shoulders with the lies of Cristiano Ronaldo next season after their ascension to the Italian top flight.

The players were presented to their fans for a celebratory lap of honour after full-time, and Henderson emerged draped in a Saltire with Verona tweeting the picture they captioned “We love Scotland!”.

Henderson played 29 times for Verona this season, contributing three goals and five assists as Alfredo Aglietti’s team finished fifth to earn their play-off spot.
