Hibs could 'limit' crowds to 10,000 depending on how vaccine passport checks are to be carried out

Hibs could limit attendances to 10,000 to avoid potential turnstyle chaos caused by vaccine passports.

The Scottish Government has demanded that entry to events with crowds of over 10,000 can only be given to those who can prove they have received both doses of their Covid vaccine.

From 1 October, fans will be required to show their vaccine passport before they can enter stadiums with crowds over the 10,000 mark.

Random spot-checks outside grounds would be the favoured method rather than a mandatory inspection of all vaccine passports, and some clubs fear that the logistical and financial challenges of such a scheme could prove a step too far.

And the Daily Mail reports that Hibs, along with Aberdeen and Dundee United, are seriously considering limiting home attendances to 10,000 should spot-check proposals be rejected.

Another worry is a number of fans will elect to stay away on principal, in addition to those who aren’t double vaccinated, which could cost up to £1.5million in lost match day revenue for Aberdeen.

The Dons plan to survey season ticket holders on the subject.

Hibs have only had one home game in which they were able to allow punters back in on mass.

15, 553 watched Jack Ross ’ side beat Livingston 3-0 in their last Premiership fixture before the international break.

With bigger games on the horizon that would normally be edging towards the 20,000 crowd mark, the vaccine passport requirement could see the attendance for such fixtures be cut in half.

That potentially includes the New Year derby at home to city rivals Hearts, which would almost be guaranteed to sell out under normal circumstances.
