Hibs confirm Marijan Cabraja transfer as Lee Johnson moves quick for Josh Doig replacement

Hibs have acted quickly to replace Josh Doig with the signing of Croatian left-back Marijan Cabraja on a long-term contract.

It was announced early on Wednesday that Doig had left the Easter Road club after two full seasons at senior level in Leith, making the club a seven-figure fee with his move to Serie A club Hellas Verona. Cabraja joins from Dinamo Zagreb until 2025, a club where he won the Prva HNL (Croatian top-flight) title and the Hrvatski nogometni kup (Croatian Cup).

He also tasted Hungarian top-flight glory during a loan spell at Ferencvaros and has also spent time in Slovenia at Olimpija Ljubljana. Manager Lee Johnson said: “We are delighted to welcome Marijan to Hibernian FC and look forward to working with him. He has history of playing at a very high level and is the perfect age to add to our group.

“He’s athletic, a really technical left-back who has quality on the ball through his delivery and distribution. He will add strength to our group.”

Head of Recruitment, Ian Gordon, added: “Squad planning is always at the forefront of our minds and knowing there’s been interest in Josh Doig for a prolonged period, Marijan is someone we’ve been looking at very closely.
