Hibs complete signing of Dundee talent Josh Mulligan

Hibernian boss David Gray is delighted to have added “one of the most eye-catching young players in the Scottish Premiership” to his squad after the versatile Josh Mulligan signed on a four-year deal following his departure from Dundee.

The 22-year-old left Dens Park under freedom of contract, although Hibs must pay compensation as he was developed there from the age of eight.

Mulligan – linked with Rangers recently – can operate in several positions, having been used in central midfield, at right-back and right wing-back for Dundee while also playing in a more advanced role for Scotland Under-21s.

“Josh was one of the most eye-catching young players in the Scottish Premiership last season and has a lot of the attributes and characteristics we look for in our squad,” Gray told Hibs’ website.

“He’s a young player that’s eager to progress and develop, and gives us extra options with his versatility as he is comfortable as a central midfielder or at right wing-back.

“We’re delighted to add him to the group and look forward to working with him moving forward.”

Mulligan made over 100 appearances for Dundee and is excited about continuing his career with a Hibs team that finished third in the top flight last term.

“I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get going,” he said. “Hibs were the first team that showed interest, and that is usually a good sign.

“They wanted me to come here and be in the first team. Playing against Hibs last season, seeing how good they were and how well run they were, it was a no-brainer for me.

“There are obviously loads of good players in this squad but it was more the way they were playing, that’s what impressed me most. It’s something I want to be a part of moving forward.”

Mulligan becomes Hibs’ third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Irish midfielder Jamie McGrath and Austrian goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger, while key defender Rocky Bushiri has also decided to stay with the club.

Sporting director Malky Mackay said: “Josh is someone we’ve been aware of for some time, and he performed excellently for Dundee last season.

“The number of senior games he’s played at his age is impressive, and as a club we’re keen to add young Scottish talent to our squad to help them reach their potential.

“Josh is another good character to add to the group.”
