Hibs complete Elias Melkersen transfer as Shaun Maloney backs 'talented' Norwegian striker to succeed at Easter Road

Hibs have completed the signing of Elias Melkersen on a four-and-a-half-year deal from FK Bodø/Glimt.

The 19-year-old striker has joined the Easter Road club for an undisclosed fee - thought to be in excess of £350,000 - as Shaun Maloney gets to work on strengthening his squad.

Melkersen has spent most of his career to date on loan at Norwegian second division outfit Ranheim, where he has scored 23 goals in 37 games.

He’s also made his mark on the international stage with two goals in three games for Norway Under 20s.

However, Hibs boss Maloney has warned the teenager will need time to adjust to the team's style of play, as well as the Scottish Premiership.

Maloney said: "Elias is a really talented young player who has genuine potential to play a big part and, ultimately, to be very successful at this club.

"We will have to give him time, of course, to adapt to our style of play as a team and also to our league, so we’ll be conscious of this.

"He’s an exciting, attacking talent, technically good with both feet and he has good attributes to drop deeper on the pitch.

"We’re looking forward to working with him."
