Hibs chief Leeann Dempster slams SPFL for switching Celtic clash without consulting Easter Road side

Hibernian chief executive Leeann Dempster has slammed Premiership bosses after claiming the date for the Easter Road side's trip to Celtic in January was switched without their consent.

The SPFL confirmed the Hibees' game at Parkhead - initially scheduled for 3pm on Saturday, January 9 - had been pushed back to Monday, January 11 following a 'club request'.

It was later reported that Celtic had asked for the date of the game to be changed in order to 'protect player welfare' after a busy fixture schedule.

But Dempster, who announced she was stepping down from her role at Easter Road last week, took to social media to reveal that Hibs had turned down the Glasgow side's request as it "didn't work for the club".

She accused the SPFL of ignoring the Easter Road side's rebuttal to change the date and time of the game, adding: "Apologies to our supporters and our head coach.

"This was done without my knowledge - we said no to the original request from Celtic because the request didn’t work for our club.

"The SPFL appears to have agreed this without a call to the decision makers at our club."

She followed up with: "We are fizzing about this -@spfl know I am leaving soon (ish) but they still have my mobile number so a call should have been easy to do - or @gmathie82 or even to our Chairman. Not good enough. Move to Monday without asking us?"

It is understood Celtic were hoping to give their squad an extra period of rest after the festive fixture schedule - when they play nine games between December and the start of January, including the Scottish Cup final against Hearts.

The Parkhead side are due to face Rangers in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on January 2, with Hibs hosting Livingston but requested to push that back by 52 hours to give them nine days respite between the fixtures

Hibs face Motherwell on Saturday, while Celtic are away to AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday evening before they host St Johnstone on Sunday.
