Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom says he doesn't fear the sack after Hearts defeat

Paul Heckingbottom says he doesn't fear the sack after his side's defeat to Hearts .

The Englishman is under-fire after Hibs ' 2-1 loss to Craig Levein 's side in the first Edinburgh derby of the season.

The Leith outfit have suffered a dismal start to the campaign and are currently lying in 11th spot in the table.

Stevie Mallan put the home side ahead with a long range stunner before strikes from Uche Ikpeazu and Aaron Hickey sealed a dramatic comeback for the visitors.

Heckingbottom says the manner of the defeat is a "sickener", but insists he is the man to turn things round at Easter Road.

He said: "These are not games you want to lose whether you are on a good run or a bad run. Would I feel differently if we had won the two games before? I don’t think I would. It is tough to take.

“You want the win and you want to turn things around and you want to put right the things that are going wrong but I wouldn’t call it any differently.

“This is a sickener and it is a sickener in its own right.

“I understand the frustrations because the manner of the defeat is a tough one as well.

“Have I got confidence that I can turn it around? Yeah, no problem. I’ve got confidence.

“But there’s no hiding place from what’s going on.

“Do I think I can turn this around? Yeah, a hundred per cent.

“I would love to see your face if I sat here and said otherwise. A hundred per cent.

“Again, you will ask me those things. I can’t think like that.

“To do your job as a manager, you can’t think like that. It’s pointless. What’s the point in doing that?

“You would have to ask to sit the people upstairs here to answer that.

“I have no problems answering those questions. You will ask me them and I will answer but you are asking the wrong person.

“The minute I start worrying about that or making decisions based on that I am not doing my job.

“My job along with the staff and the players is to put it right on the pitch. Other things aren’t our remit or our decision.

“We have to focus on our job, stand up, be strong, act like men and put it right. There is no hiding place.

“I’ve already been looking back at the video of the game and, straight away, I’m thinking about what I show the players tomorrow.

“What will I tell the players? How is it going to be delivered? Because we’ve got to change some things.

"That’s the job 24/7.”
