Hibs boss Jack Ross set to bolster attack after Christian Doidge injury blow takes shine off Premier Sports Cup win

Jack Ross relied on his Hibs frontmen to see off Kilmarnock but the Easter Road gaffer revealed he is out to add even more firepower.

Kyle Magennis and Kevin Nisbet struck in the second half to make sure there was no Euro hangover or Premier Sports Cup shock in Leith.

But the bitter pre-match news Christian Doidge’s Achilles injury will rule him out until Christmas will force Ross back in to the transfer market in the remaining weeks of the window.

The boss said: “It’s likely to be three of four months before he even returns to training so it’s a serious blow for us and for him as well.

“He was back in contention for the Wales squad and that’s been a big driver for him.

“He’s been terrific for us and I’m so disappointed for him.

“We’ll need to replace him. It’s an area we needed to strengthen before Christian’s injury but this heightens the need for reinforcements.”

Ross wants more attacking options but the ones he has right now are more than decent. Nisbet was superb against Killie and Magennis has emerged as a key man this term.

Hibs were second best in the first half against Tommy Wright’s men but came to life after the break.

The Hibs gaffer said: “This was a big season for Kyle. It was always going to be difficult last season coming back from a serious injury, picking up a couple of niggles and covid.

“His season was disrupted. He’s one of my boys, I gave him his debut and I’m fond of him.

“He’s got a huge career ahead of him but we challenged him this pre-season. We said you’re a Hibs players now and he’s proving he’s a terrific player.

“This is not a rich vein of form – this is just how he is. In the past you could look at the end product in terms of goals but his all round performances have been excellent.”
