Hibs await green light for St Mirren bounce game at East Mains ahead of proposed season start

Hibernian will find out later this week whether they will be able to host a behind closed door bounce-game against Premiership rivals St Mirren.

The Easter Road side have offered to hold the pre-season clash at their East Mains training facility this Saturday, but will only be allowed to do so if the match is approved by the Scottish Government in line with COVID-19 restrictions.

The Buddies are understood to have proposed the match ahead of the scheduled season restart on August 1.

The Press Association reports the Paisley club's playing squad will make their own way to the Hibernian Training Centre in their own cars should the match be greenlit before Saturday.

Only playing and coaching staff would be allowed admission to the facility, with supporters barred from entry.

Hibs returned to training last month, with Jack Ross putting players through their paces after being given the go-ahead to return to full contact training.

St Mirren have also reportedly lined up bounce matches against other top flight sides including Hamilton Academical and St Johnstone.

But any move for those games to take place are on hold until Nicola Sturgeon announces a further relaxation of coronavirus measures.

That could come on Thursday when the First Minister hosts her daily COVID-19 briefing.

Goals from Scott Allan and Christian Doidge rescued a point for Hibs in the last league meeting between the sides before the game. was shut down by the global pandemic.
